Subtle tweaks could pave way for Geyger's Turkish success

Although he’s content with his recent performances, Nico Geyger wants to ‘sharpen everything up’ when he competes in the Turkish Airlines Challenge this week.

The European Challenge Tour makes returns to Gloria Golf Club this week for the fifth time as the Road to Ras Al Khaimah, currently led by Lorenzo Gagli, continues.

Geyger, who is sixth on the Road to Ras Al Khaimah, will play in his second Challenge Tour event of 2018 this week after he secured a tie for third place at the season-opening Barclays Kenya Open.

The Chilean is yet to record a win since his Challenge Tour debut three years ago but believes he can contend at the top of the leaderboard when he is playing well.

“My game is good. The last two weeks weren’t the greatest but I don’t feel like I’m that far off where I want to be,” he said.

“I’m just trying to play good golf and then we’ll see where I finish. I’m not really concerned about where I’m going to finish because I know if I play good golf then I know I can compete.

“I’m trying to sharpen everything up. From the tee, the second shot, trying to make more putts, it’s all important. I want to see that improvement all around my game.”

Born in the Chilean capital of Santiago, Geyger has played most of his golf on the European Tour this year, competing in last week’s Trophée Hassan II and the Open de España earlier this month.

But Geyger is back in Challenge Tour action this week and with its warm weather and excellent facilities, the Turkish Airlines Challenge in Antalya is one of the highlights of the schedule.

The 31 year old has enjoyed good performances at Gloria Golf Club previously, securing a 22nd placed finish in 2015 before finishing fifth on his last appearance at the tournament in 2016 – leading Geyger to dub the event as ‘perfect’.

“The whole event is amazing,” he said. “The course is great, the hotel is very good too and they treat us very well so all around it’s perfect.

“The whole surroundings make you feel better and the weather is great – you can’t ask for anymore.

“The course is pretty good. Like every time we’ve been here, the fairways are very good. You’ve got to be good with your tee shot and then you’ve got to be able to make some putts. The greens are rolling very nicely.
