TOMMY FLEETWOOD EXCITED BY PROSPECT OF TURKISH AIRLINES OPEN

Ryder Cup hero Tommy Fleetwood is looking forward to continuing his push for a second successive Race to Dubai win when the Englishman returns to the Turkish Airlines Open, the sixth Rolex Series event of the season.

The Englishman has become one of the most prominent forces in world golf over the past two seasons, having last season been crowned European Tour Number One following a breakthrough campaign which included two European Tour victories.

Fleetwood is once again vying to finish top of the bunch this year and is pushing his Ryder Cup team-mate Francesco Molinari hard at the top of the Race to Dubai Rankings presented by Rolex.

The Turkish Airlines Open takes place from November 1-4 at the Regnum Carya Golf and Spa Resort, in Turkey’s golfing haven of Belek, and is the third last tournament of the season as the Race to Dubai reaches its climax.

Fleetwood made his Ryder Cup debut in Europe’s 17½-10½ win over the USA in Paris in September, contributing four points from four in the opening two days alongside his close friend Molinari. Justin Rose and Tyrrell Hatton are among his team-mates also confirmed for the tournament in Belek.

Since the start of last year, the 27-year-old has won three times – having this year successfully defended the Abu Dhabi HSBC Championship title he also won in 2017, and the 2017 Open de France – and has also finished second and fourth in the last two U.S. Opens, along with a runner-up finish at last year’s WGC-Mexico Championship.

He has featured at every Turkish Airlines Open since its inception in 2013 and said: “I’m really pleased to be heading back to the Turkish Airlines Open once again.

“It’s become a regular event in my schedule and is one that I look forward to every year because everything about the set-up in Antalya is amazing. It’s also very significant in terms of The Race to Dubai so I’m sure it’s going to be a special event.”

The tournament is part of the Rolex Series, the premium category of events on the European Tour’s Race to Dubai – each with a minimum prize fund of $7million.

Ahmet Ağaoğlu, President of the Turkish Golf Federation, said: “The Turkish Airlines Open is all about bringing the game’s icons together here in Belek and we are privileged to have Tommy with us once again.

“He has been an important part of the Turkish Airlines Open story and we’re sure our tournament will play a big part in deciding who wins The Race to Dubai yet again.”
